Kent Pennybaker

Kent is a process engineer specializing in gas handling with over 30 years of experience. He is familiar with natural gas processing, carbon capture and sequestration, helium recovery, and other gas separation and treating processes. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas (1983 / 1987). He previously worked for Conoco and has focused on the midstream industry throughout his career. He founded RCE in 1994 and continues to build and develop its expertise through its employees and projects.  He enjoys skiing and golfing. He enjoys working with younger kids as a track starter. Watching sports is one of his favorite hobbies as well.  

Reed Knobbe

Reed Knobbe is a dedicated process engineer with a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (2006) and a Master’s in Engineering Management (2017) from the University of Kansas. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in both Kansas and Texas, Reed brings a wealth of expertise to the engineering field, focusing on optimizing processes and delivering efficient solutions. Outside of work, Reed enjoys golfing, reading, and traveling, as well as cheering on his favorite sports teams. A passionate lifelong learner, Reed is committed to both personal and professional growth.

Heidi Casper

Heidi is a process engineer specializing in Process Safety Management (PSM). She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas (2009) and has since built a strong career focused on optimizing safety and efficiency in cryogenic gas processes. Outside of work, Heidi enjoys reading, volleyball, knitting, and indulging in both board and video games, where she loves to unwind and challenge her strategic thinking skills.

Tien Vanderloo

Tien is a Senior Process Engineer and has been with River City Engineering since 2012—starting as an intern while studying chemical engineering at the University of Kansas (’13). Through the years, her work includes process design, safety, and optimization, with an emphasis on safety relief systems, for her gas processor clientele. She strives not only to be a supportive resource for her clients, but also for her colleagues at RCE to enhance the constant collaborative environment. In her free time, Tien enjoys hiking and exploring nature trails with her family of four.

Emilie Wyeno

Emilie Wyeno graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical & Biological Engineering in 2017. In her time with River City Engineering, Emilie has honed her skills in cross-functional collaboration to identify and solve bottlenecks and other issues with safe, economical, and practical solutions. She has worked with cryogenic gas processing facilities, ethanol plants and carbon capture facilities, wells, and fractionation facilities both domestically and internationally. When not at the office, Emilie enjoys skiing, golfing, and playing tennis with her husband, as well as running with her two dogs, reading, and playing the cello.

Ross Asbury

Ross Asbury graduated from the University of Kansas in 2019. Ross is a Process Engineer with a passion for both technical problem-solving and the natural world. With 5 years of experience in the gas processing industry, Ross excels in troubleshooting, optimization, and leveraging process simulation tools. Ross’s hobbies include canoeing, hunting, fishing, camping, and exploring.

Nathan Ohl

Nathan is a junior process engineer specializing in process design, simulation, and safety analysis. His work uses advanced simulation software to optimize processes and ensure efficiency. He also focuses on identifying hazards and implementing safety measures, contributing to safer and more efficient operations.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 2023. Outside of work, Nathan enjoys playing with his dog, Macy, cheering on his Jayhawks and Chiefs at sporting events, and spending time with his friends and family.
